Three key points to keep in mind when using a medium-frequency melting furnace—do you have them down?

2021-05-28

The medium-frequency melting furnace is a widely adopted technology, offering distinct advantages across various industries such as casting, metallurgy, and tube rolling. During the melting process, this furnace allows for precise control and adjustment of alloy compositions, enabling the production of high-performance metal and alloy materials. Additionally, its unique electromagnetic stirring feature effectively prevents elemental segregation during alloy melting. Once the metals are fully melted, the furnace can produce high-quality castings with exceptional precision and reliability.

The medium-frequency melting furnace delivers outstanding performance, but there are 3 key points to keep in mind during daily operation:

  1. Precautions Before Starting the Furnace

Before starting the medium-frequency melting furnace, it is essential to inspect electrical equipment, the water-cooling system, and the copper tubing of the induction coil, among other components. To ensure safe heat treatment operations, the furnace can only be turned on when all equipment is in proper working condition—otherwise, operation must be strictly prohibited. Additionally, personnel responsible for energizing and initiating the furnace, as well as their supervisors, must remain at their posts at all times and are not permitted to leave without authorization. During operation, continuous monitoring of the sensor and crucible’s external conditions is critical to prevent anyone from touching the sensors or cables after power has been applied, which could disrupt the normal functioning of the medium-frequency melting furnace or even lead to safety hazards.

  2. Precautions After Furnace Startup

After the medium-frequency melting furnace is started, carefully inspect metal materials before adding them to avoid introducing impurities that could compromise the material properties. To prevent capping, never add cold or damp materials directly into the molten metal. Once the molten metal has filled the upper portion of the furnace, refrain from introducing bulky chunks. To minimize splashing, ensure the pouring area and the front of the furnace are free of water and any obstructions within the pit. When pouring, proceed with caution and gently guide the molten metal into the graphite crucible.

  3. Precautions During Maintenance

When maintaining the medium-frequency melting furnace, ensure the medium-frequency generator room remains clean and strictly prohibit the storage of flammable or explosive materials. Repair the furnace promptly if it is experiencing excessive melting losses, and avoid contaminating the crucible during repairs by keeping foreign materials out of the charge box. Additionally, verify the tightness and integrity of the crucible to prevent any leaks or defects.

Only by implementing these three preventive measures can the daily operation of the medium-frequency furnace be conducted more efficiently and safely, while also boosting production efficiency.
